I like rich, heavy chocolate cakes and this is one. From one of the Butler 19th ward cookbooks
- 3/4 cups Butter
- 1 3/4 cups Sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- 3/4 cups cocoa
- 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/3 cups water
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy; add eggs and vanilla; beat 1 minute at medium speed. Combine and sift cocoa, baking soda, salt and flour. Add alternately with water to creamed mixture. Pour batter into two greased and floured 8-inch cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Frost with chocolate frosting.
